Covid death recorded in Rutland

A further death from covid has been recorded as cases continue to rise both locally and nationally.

During the New Year's period, a death within 28 days of a positive covid test was recorded in Rutland.

The latest fatality brings the number of deaths recorded in the county to 72.

According to figures released by Public Health England yesterday (January 2), Rutland's seven-day infection rate stands at 1,201 cases per every 100,000 people with 486 people who have tested positive in the past week.

This is more than double the case rate two weeks ago.

Throughout the pandemic, 6,663 cases have been recorded in the county, equating to about 17 per cent of the population.

Nationally cases are also rising with the seven-day infection rate standing at 1414 cases per every 100,000 people, up from 646 two weeks ago.

Many schools will return this week with extra covid safety measures in place as the Government is set to review its Plan B restrictions for England.
