GCSE: Top marks for Oakhamians!
In a year that marks change for GCSE results, an impressive number of Oakhamians are celebrating having achieved the new top 9 grade.
Of all the new graded (9-1) GCSE examinations taken this year at Oakham School, over a quarter were awarded grade 9.
“For so many grades to be achieved at this new level 9, which is harder to attain than an A* was previously, is an exceptional achievement,” said Headmaster Nigel Lashbrook.
“It is a testimony to the hard work and dedication of both our students and their teachers.”
Overall, 61 per cent of all exams taken were awarded A*- A grades (equivalent to 9-7) and for the second year running, a fifth of students, 31 in total, achieved straight A*- A grades (or the equivalent 9-7).
Impressively, eight students achieved the phenomenal success of at least 10 A*s or equivalent.
“At this time of year, it is always important to remember that Oakhamians have not just excelled in their exams – but in all areas across what we call our ‘Total Curriculum’," said Nigel.
"Students haven’t picked up a grade today for everything they have learnt whilst studying for their GCSEs.
"All that they have participated in outside of the classroom– be it on the sports pitch or the stage, or during any of their numerous activity sessions - may not be measurable, but it is certainly equally valuable."
