Bourne schoolgirl, 13, approached for sexually explicit pictures

A 13-year-old schoolgirl was asked to send explicit pictures of herself to an anonymous social media user.

It’s understood that the girl, believed to be a pupil in Bourne, was being blackmailed into sending a sexual image by being told that if she refused then another picture would be circulated.

A police spokesman said: “We are currently undergoing a thorough investigation of this incident and supporting the victim.”

Officers have asked for anyone who comes across this sort of incident to call 101 and report it to them for investigation.

A spokesman said : “This type of offence is understandably very distressing for any victim, as an invasion to their lives and personal privacy and an attack on their dignity, but sadly victims can be easily be exploited in this way.

“We would always encourage people to ask themselves, ‘would I be happy for anyone else to see this?’ before sharing an image online by photo, text or video, via your phone, tablet or computer.”

They added: “Never feel pressured to send an image of yourself to anyone.

“It is also worth reminding those who might as for explicit images that it can be a criminal offence where the person in the picture is under the age of 18.”
