WHSmith, the UK’s most popular bookseller, stationer and newsagent, has teamed up with Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland to promote World Book Day on March 5.

Customers are encouraged to donate pre-loved or new books during March at branches of WHSmith or at any Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland shop or Resource Centre. The books will then be sold through Age UK’s dedicated book shops in Loughborough, Leicester, Oadby and Market Harborough.

A WHSmith spokesman said “We are delighted to be working with Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland for a second year and we hope this event will support the charity to raise much needed funds for the work it carries out in providing essential services for older people in the area.”

In 2014, the books donated at WHSmith stores in the City and county raised nearly £1,000, all of which was invested to support the most vulnerable and needy older people.
