Gritting lorries will be on the roads tomorrow (Saturday) for their first test run of the year.

Lincolnshire County Council is sending 43 gritters out from its depots, including the one in Thurlby, to check the machines are working properly and that its winter response team is well prepared for any challenges ahead.

Over the winter, the gritters will treat 1,869 miles of roads in the county, representing just over a third of the county’s road network.

Last year, the council used 40,0000 tonnes of grit to treat the roads, the highest amount on the council’s records.
