A man aims to catapult his popular gymnastics club to another level with the help from the community and businesses.

Mathew Cooper, head coach and founder of Stamford Gymnastics Club, has started fundraising to buy more equipment and open a purpose-built facility.

He hopes to raise £15,000 in a year.

The group is based at Casterton College and began as an after-school club with 16 gymnasts.

It now has three classes with 141 registered gymnasts and more than 300 people on a waiting list to join classes.

Mathew, from Baston, said: “I have set myself 12 months to raise as much money as I can so that we can purchase equipment.”

He wants to buy equipment including matting for under the bars and beam, additional crash mats, and top matting for the floor area.

Through the lockdowns, Mathew continued to teach by holding Zoom meetings with his pupils.

To raise the money, Mat is going to offer tiered sponsorship opportunities to businesses and, in return, the club will brand the mats, equipment and uniform.

He also intends to fundraise in the community and finish the fundraising by completing a sky dive.
