Police will take to the countryside for an operation to tackle hare coursing.

Sgt Paul Kear of Rutland Police has reminded residents that 'hare coursing is still a priority' for the force to tackle.

He said: "Now harvest is done and the crops are cut, you can see the hares so we do see an increase.

"This weekend we are running a county hare coursing operation, Operation Galileo.

"We focus on quick response to reports of hare coursing."

Sgt Kear encouraged people to report any suspicious sightings to the police as it is better to have 'a number of calls which don't amount to anything and one positive outcome, than no calls at all'.
