The ever popular Deepings Raft Race is set to take place this weekend with an ‘oar-some’ line-up of events making a splash along the riverside on Sunday.

Following on from the huge success of last years race, organisers have been hard at work planning this year’s event which is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

This year’s theme will be cartoon characters, so expect to see your favourite action heroes sailing on down the river. There’s also a chance to win some great prizes in the fancy dress parade taking place outside The Antiques Centre at 3.45pm. Categories are under 5’s, five to 10 year-olds, 11 to 15 year-olds and adults.

The racing starts at Bridge Street in Deeping St James at midday, with all of the rafts racing to the finish line by the Boundary Fish & Chip shop.

Rafts will exit the river and medals will be awarded by Deeping’s very own celebrity, Cassidy Little at the Iron Horse Ranch House in Market Deeping from 2.15pm to 4pm.

Alongside the rafts, will be a huge array of stalls, classic cars and bikes, a fun fair, music and dance demonstrations, a ‘bus bar’, treasure hunt, competitions and games and much more.

Amongst all of the fun, this year’s event will be raising vital funds for the events two nominated charities, Dementia Support South Lincs and The Exotic Pet Refuge in Deeping St James.
