Lincolnshire County Council's highways manager said: "The police alerted us to the pothole yesterday and a team was sent out to repair it.

"We look after around 5,500 miles of highway, and the law recognises that it would be unreasonable to expect to us keep all roads completely free of potholes at all times. That means we are not necessarily liable for any damage caused to vehicles.

"Anyone who wishes to submit an insurance claim, should call 01522 782070 so it can be investigated.

"We strongly encourage anyone who encounters a pothole to report it using our online system at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/faultreporting so it can be dealt with."

Roads closed at weekend after flooding.
