A private school’s £6.1m sports centre will be opened to limited public membership on Monday after almost a year of seeking council approval.

Stamford Endowed Schools will be able to open its facility off Conduit Road to up to 300 members.

To offer memberships the school had to apply for a change to some of the conditions imposed by South Kesteven District Council when planning permission was originally granted, including the hours of use.

South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee granted the school permission to allow 300 people to become members of its sports centre in Conduit Road
for a 12-month trial period in July.

However the school had to submit a management plan for the centre before the trial could begin, which was not approved until October 8.

The sports centre includes a 25 metre swimming pool, a 30 station air conditioned fitness suite with state-of-the-art Life Fitness equipment as well as a free weights area.

Members will be able to use the sports centre facilities between the hours of 5.30pm to 8.30pm term time week days, at weekends and during increased opening hours in the school holiday periods.

The sports centre is offering membership for either an individual or a family, who can choose from the silver membership which is for just the use of the pool or the gold membership, which also includes use of the
fitness suite.

Individual gold membership will cost £180 person for six months and £360 for a family of two adults and up to four children.

Silver membership is £150 for an individual and £300 for a family.

The sports centre will also provide a range of fitness classes for a small additional cost to the membership.

While the news will come as a welcome boosts for people campaigning for better sports facilities for the town a number of neighbouring residents in Conduit Road raised serious concerns during the planning consultation about an increase in traffic and parking along the already congested road.
