Have you ever considered becoming a councillor? Rutland County Council is offering residents the chance to find out what it takes to be a local representative at a special open event next month.
The event has been organised in partnership with East Midlands Councils ahead of the 2015 elections, which will see all 26 of Rutland’s County Council seats contested. The aim is to encourage more people to stand as local councillors in these elections and thereby increase the choice of candidates for voters.
Anyone can attend the free event, where residents will hear first-hand from councillors about what their work involves and why it is important. There will also be an opportunity to speak with officers and directors about various council services and the support that councillors receive.
The open event takes place at the council’s offices at 7pm on Thursday, November 6, with similar events planned by Leicestershire councils throughout November and into the New Year.
For more information about the event, please contact Rutland County Council by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 01572 720 991.
