Heatwave causes delays on East Coast Main Line

On the hottest day of the year train passengers on the East Coast Main Line have expressed their frustration at delays, after speed restrictions were imposed because of the risk of tracks buckling.

Network Rail state that due to the exceptionally hot weather conditions they have had to impose the speed restrictions on the East Coast Main Line, resulting in Virgin Trains East Coast running a reduced service between Leeds and London Kings Cross.

They are allowing customers with tickets for cancelled services to travel on trains immediately before or after their booked service, and also offering a full refund to those who no longer wish to travel.
