Rutland Flying School has made a teenager’s dream come true.
Sixteen-year-old Henry Simpson has been spending his pocket money on flying lessons and on Saturday he made his first solo flight.
It went without incident and he made a perfect landing - with his proud father among the first to congratulate him.
Although he lives in Essex and there are flying schools closer to home, Henry prefers Rutland because his grandfather was a pilot based at RAF Cottesmore and he has relatives at Barnsdale that he can stay with.
GCSE exams must now take priority, although he is keen to have a career in aviation.
“I’ve wanted to fly for as long as I can remember,” he said.
