High-powered drive launched to recruit retained firefighters in Stamford
A high-powered drive has been launched to recruit more retained firefighters in Stamford.
There are 13 on-call firefighters in the town - the only two-pump retained fire station in Lincolnshire.
The service is urging both men and women aged over 18 to join up as they step up efforts to beef up the Stamford firefighting team.
Stamford crew manager Jacob Smith, 29, said: “This is the perfect chance to get a real buzz in your life and save lives - come and join us today!
“It’s a fantastic thing to do and it’s not your average 9 till 5 job.
“We never know what’s going to happen day to day.”
The dad-of-one added: “We can have nothing to do for four days - and then get called out four times during one night.
“It can be anything from fighting house fires and car blazes to clearing up chemical spills and animal rescues.
“We’d love to recruit more people to help us protect Stamford and the surrounding area day and night seven days a week.”
Jacob runs his own fencing business and his colleague Hayden Johns, 25, is also a retained firefighter.
“We always tell customers we are on-call firemen and may have to dash off at any time,” he said.
“Employers have to be understanding as retained firefighters have to respond to emergencies at any time.”
Anyone interested in joining up can go along to drill night at Stamford fire station in New Cross Road from 6.30pm-9pm on a Monday or call 0800 3580 204.
