THE use of hosepipes will be banned in the Stamford and Bourne areas from April 5.

Anglian Water has announced that due to drought conditions it is introducing a hosepipe ban next month for domestic customers.

The company uses water from Rutland Water to supply homes in the Stamford and Bourne area.

The reservoir water level is currently 25 per cent below the level it would normally be at this time of the year.

It is the first time the company has banned hosepipe usage in more than 20 years.

Severn Trent which supplies water to Rutland is not banning hosepipes for the time being and says it has plenty of water in its reserves.

It is currently in discussions with Anglian Water about trading water to prevent any further problems.
