HSBC Bank to close branch in Market Deeping
HSBC Bank is to close its Market Deeping branch in August due to the rise of internet banking.
A sign in the window of the branch in Market Place said all business will move to Cathedral Place, Peterborough, after August 28.
A HSBC spokesman said: “Our branches are a very important way for our customers to bank with us, especially for their more complex financial needs, so we have spent over £250 million upgrading and improving our network in recent years.
“However, our customers’ habits are changing and they are increasingly using the convenience of internet, smartphone or telephone banking for their day-to-day needs.
“We have seen almost a 40 per cent reduction in customers coming to our branches over the last four years and, on occasions, this has meant we have needed to close a branch.
“It is never a decision we take lightly but our Market Deeping branch is a case in point and we are working with the small number of customers who use the branch to help them reorganise their finances ahead of the closure on August 28.
“Meanwhile, the members of staff who service the branch will transfer to other HSBC branches in the area.”
