More than 400 children and parents turned up for the fourth Tree Dressing Day at the Spinney in Little Bytham.

With the help of Jo Hammond, an environmental artist, children and their parents were able to make decorations which they could then attach to the tree of their choice to help make the Spinney more attractive.

People could also make their own decorations to take home, and all for free!

And although it was a rather cold day, after several fun runs for local school children there was plenty of hot soup, cakes, and luxury chocolates provided by the Friends of the Bythams School, under the leadership of Clare Watson, which helped raise nearly £400 to support school activities. There was also a campfire to warm people up where people could toast marshmallows, chestnuts or whatever they wanted.

Chairman of the Bythams Woodland Trust Dr Patrick Candler said: “We had a really brilliant day, with hundreds of people from the local villages and also much further afield coming to help us with our tree dressing.

“The Spinney is a really wonderful place for children and adults to play and it’s days like this that are really special.”

The Spinney is also being supported by the national Woodland Trust, based in Grantham, and has been nominated to be one of the first “charter branches” as part of a new campaign for a new national Charter for Trees, People and Communities.
