Michael Pressick and Imogen Huxley retained their individual club titles with identical scores at Rutland County Golf Club at the weekend.
Pressick and Huxley carded matching gross scores of 155 to take the men’s and ladies’ crowns.
With the rough due to be extensively re-shaped and reduced this week, the competitors in both championships and the Rutland County Club Bowl faced arguably the toughest conditions of the year despite the weather being favourable over the two days.
Pressick was consistent, holding his nerve after an opening 78, by following up with 77 to finish five shots clear of Chris Palmer.
Palmer recovered from a shocking front nine 48 on day one, covering the back nine in 35 shots, to finish with 83 on the first day, followed by 77 on day two for an overall 155.
Oliver Huxley was third, one shot further back. Jordan Paylor, who was leading after day one with 77, could not repeat the performance and finished fourth with 77 and 86 for 163.
Club skipper Kevin Moxham continued his recovery of form and finished fifth in the championship on 164 and claimed the Best Net Trophy with scores of 70 and 74 for a total 144, ahead of consistent Martin Clark on 74 and 72 for 146. Dave Rippin gave the veterans a boost with a comfortable victory in the Club Bowl, carding 80 and 76 for 156, outpacing youngster Nathan Harper by three shots.
Meanwhile Imogen Huxley was pulling off heroic shots in the Ladies Championship, birdieing the final two holes on day one to equal the course record of 72, which proved the lowest gross of any event over the two days.
Day two was more of a struggle but 83 was good enough to keep hold of the trophy for another year.
Anne Milsom finished in second on 181 while Karen Palmer, playing in the final group, claimed the Ladies Net on 153, followed by Jackie Cole with 156. Lady Captain Mandy Collins finished fourth with 158.
