Investigation after 62-year-old Stamford man dies in accident
An investigation is underway after a man died following a road traffic collision in Stamford in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said in a statement released on Saturday: “At about 2.51am this morning a stationary Nissan Micra in Brazenose Lane, Stamford, was approached by police officers in connection with its manner of driving.”
Shortly afterwards, the vehicle was in collision with a wall in Wharf Road.
The driver, a 62-year-old man from the Stamford area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Formal identification has yet to take place and the man’s family have been informed.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish cause of death.
Wharf Road was closed for much of Saturday, while investigation and recovery took place. The road had reopened by 5pm.
The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, as is standard procedure in such instances.
