Watchmaker joins team at Loomes in St Mary’s Hill, Stamford

A watchmaker is continuing to create highly skilled jobs in spite of coronavirus.

Josh Muir, 29, is the latest addition to the team at Loomes watchmakers in St Mary’s Hill, Stamford.

Josh trained and worked as a watch technician in the West Country before deciding to become a fully trained watchmaker. He attended the Manchester School of Horology full time on their 3,000 hour long training course.

Robina Hill, partner at Loomes, said: “Josh’s tutor at Manchester used to work for us in Stamford ten years ago, so we know him really well. He suggested one of his graduates, Josh, would be a perfect match for us. Professional watchmaking is a small world.”

Josh is continuing to develop at Loomes where he is responsible for machining components for Loomes’ British made watches. His work at Loomes included research with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre at Sheffield University.

Lead researcher Emma Parkin said: “It’s great that Loomes are expanding and developing these highly advanced micro-machining techniques and creating high skill, high value jobs in Stamford.”
