Joy for paraplegic Christine as she completes 500 metre open water swim

A paraplegic sailing enthusiast has successfully completed a 500 metre sponsored swim in Rutland Water.

Christine Spray, 56, from Ketton, had originally planned to carry out the challenge in May, but low water temperatures meant she couldn’t complete the distance.

Last week Christine entered the water at Whitwell and completed the course with support from Mary Hardwick of Inspire 2 Tri.

The swim was organised to raise money for Rutland Sailability – a club which has been helping disabled people get into the sport for the past 20 years and of which Christine is a member.

Christine recently competed in the Hansa World Championships in Medemblik, Holland, in June, against fellow sailors from across the globe. Her first sponsored swim was intended to help finance the trip.

Christine is still seeking sponsorship. To make a donation, visit https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/christine-spray-1
