Police teamed up with a canine charity to offer dog microchipping and property marking.

Members of the Bourne policing team set up stall alongside the Dogs Trust charity in the Burghley Centre, Bourne, as part of last week’s Saturday market. They then went to Billingborough police station the following day.

Plenty of people braved awful weather conditions to take advantage of the security advice and crime prevention toools.

PSCO Jay Nielander was one of those on hand to meet the public. He said: “We ended up chipping 38 dogs in Bourne. Some dogs were found to have microchips in already, so we gave advice to the owners about registration.

“It was very well attended considering the atrocious weather. And Billingborough was well attended as well.

“It was very successful.”

Two similar sessions will be held at Mole Country Stores in Stamford on April 18, and Market Deeping police station on April 19.

PCSO Nielander said: “If people bring their property we can mark it there and then.

“We are also trying to promote a horsewatch scheme in the south of the county and the Lincs Alert scheme.”
