A striking bird of prey has gone missing from its home in South Witham, leading to a plea for help to return it to its concerned owner.

The white gyrfalcon, the largest of the falcon species, went missing earlier on today (Tuesday).

Its owner has now set up a Facebook page in the hope of spreading the word and having it safely returned.

The bird of prey is wearing its anklets and is described as being “friendly to people”. However, if grabbed at or scared it could cause injury so it is to be treated with great care.

If found, the advice is to place it in a dark environment to reduce the chances of causing stress. A cardboard or wooden box would be suitable, provided it has air holes. Then call its owner immediately on 07506 359112. Anyone who has seen the bird is also asked to call straight away.

The bird may be enticed with raw beef, chicken of turkey, and a rope placed through its anklets to prevent it from flying away.
