The festive period will kick off tonight (Thursday) in Uppingham with the first of two late night shopping events - with Oakham’s to follow on Monday.
The late night shopping event in Uppingham promises to be bigger and better than ever. There will be fun and entertainment in the Market Place, High Street East and at Uppingham Town Hall, from 5pm until 9pm.
There will be a funfair, morris dancers, a Santa’s grotto, and a Christmas market.
Uppingham School’s jazz band will perform at The Falcon Hotel, an acoustic duo will be performing at The Crown Inn and school pupils will be singing carols in the Market Place.
Youngsters can have their faces painted and have a picture taken with the nativity display at St Peter and St Paul’s Church.
There will be balloon modelling and a dance academy.
At Uppingham Methodist Church, there will be an art exhibition and people can pick up a warming soup with a roll.
Many of the shops in the town will stay open late so shoppers can pick up gifts for all the family.
And the fun will continue in Oakham on Monday when the town centre streets close at 4pm for the Christmas fair.
Again many of the traders will be staying open and people can take part in a Christmas trail, which 28 shops are participating in.
Pick up a card from any of the participating shops and collect a stamp from each to be entered into a prize draw with some fantastic prizes on offer.
There will also be an ice rink in the Market Place, bands and choirs performing and a Santa’s grotto at the Buttercross.
Oakham Castle will be home to a range of craft stalls that night and there will be a funfair in High Street.
Oakham Congregational Church will house a Christmas tree festival and a dog olympics will take place in Mill Street.
There will also be a fire engine, dancing and street entertainers.
All car parks will be free from 3pm thanks to Rutland County Council and there will be a free Oakham Hopper bus service from the same time.
