Police were this afternoon continuing to question a suspect following a stabbing at a pub in Stamford.

As previously reported, a 53-year-old man was taken to hospital with stab wounds to the neck following the incident at St Mary’s Vaults, in St Mary’s Street, at around 12.30pm on Sunday.

A 45-year-old local man was later arrested in connection with the assault - which police believe was premeditated - and he remains in custody at this time.

The victim, who suffered multiple neck wounds, has since been discharged from Peterborough City Hospital.

St Mary’s Vaults was today open for business as usual, but staff refused to comment on the incident.

Anyone who was in St Mary’s Vaults, or outside in St Mary’s Street at around 12.30pm on Sunday, and who has any information which may help investigating officers is urged to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
