Number of smokers in South Kesteven and Rutland has fallen

Smoking rates have fallen in South Kesteven and Rutland – meaning the proportion of smokers in the area is well below the national average.

But campaign group Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) says smoking remains the leading cause of premature death in the UK, and that there is a long way to go before the country is truly smoke-free.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates 9.6 per cent of adults in South Kesteven smoked in 2019, down significantly from 15.8 per cent in 2018.
