Dr Sarah Furness, the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, visits Sue Ryder’s Thorpe Hall Hospice

The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland has visited Sue Ryder’s Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough to find out about palliative care provided to families.

Staff, volunteers and patients at the hospice welcomed Dr Sarah Furness to look around.

Allison Mann, hospice director, said: “We were delighted to welcome Dr Furness to our hospice to show her how we support Rutland families.”

During her visit, Dr Furness found out about the expert palliative care and support the Peterborough-based hospice provides for families in Rutland.

The hospice offers specialist inpatient care in its 20-bed unit, as well as a Hospice at Home service which cares for people at home.

“I was very impressed, it is a wonderful modern facility, with extensive gardens for families,” said Dr Sarah Furness.
