Lucy Lewin, from Uppingham in Rutland, wins 'Outstanding Female Leader in a Market Town' category in the East Midlands Women's Awards 2019




Lucy Lewin has won the ‘Outstanding Female Leader in a Market Town’ category in the East Midlands Women’s Awards.

Lucy, of Uppingham, was the third consecutive winner for Uppingham at the annual awards, which recognises individuals who have made a major contribution to the livelihood, innovation, business an/or community stability and wellbeing of a market town in the East Midlands.

Ron Simpson, secretary of Uppingham First, praises Lucy, as “the town’s most active and outstanding female leader.”

Lucy has undertook various educational courses and in 2010 opened the 85-place Little Angels (Uppingham) day nursery.

Further education followed, with Lucy’s staff also taking degree courses and in 2018 Lucy became a trainer for the National Day Nurseries Association. She also helps the education authorities scrutinise their early years offer.

This year, Lucy was elected to Uppingham town council.

She has also opened her nursery to the community with drop in sessions, baby massage and messy play sessions and also advice sessions with the Citizens Advice
Bureau.

Taking a personal training course, she is also helping women regain their fitness and confidence. She also offer students work
experience.

Ron added: “Lucy epitomises the entrepreneurial spirit evident in the town and the younger generation of business proprietors moving the community
forward.”
