Bourne family back Max and Kiera's law on organ donation in memory of Maddy Orford

The family of a Bourne teenager who sadly died after having two heart transplants in a nine-month spell have welcomed a new law on organ donations.

Maddy Orford, a former student of Bourne Grammar School and Bourne Academy, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in November 2016 and died at the age of 18 in August 2017.

Barbara Spiller, Maddy's mother, has spoken out in support of the Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Act which took effect on May 20 when all adults in England are considered to have agreed to donate their own organs when they die, unless they choose to opt out.
