The A6003 between Oakham and Uppingham will close for three months while Network Rail carries out bridge repairs at Manton
The main road connecting Oakham and Uppingham will be closed for three months.
Network Rail plans to demolish and replace the railway bridge at Manton.
Work will start on Monday, April 12 and is scheduled to finish on Monday, July 5.
The A6003 will be closed to traffic.
A spokesman for Network Rail said the £2.8m project is essential as the current bridge is more than 100 years old.
She said: “Network Rail is carrying out work to install a stronger bridge so it remains fit for purpose for years to come.
“Carrying out repairs to the bridge instead of replacing it would cause more disruption for people in future.
“The new bridge will mean train services can continue running safely and reliably for future generations.”
A diversion will be in place but the footpath will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
The signposted diversion will take drivers along the A606 from Oakham to Stamford and the A1 before joining the A43 and the A47 back to Uppingham.
