A man has been arrested after a car crashed into a house, breaking a gas main.

The accident happened in Brazenose Lane, Stamford, at about 6pm on Thursday last week. A Ford Fiesta hit a house and cracked a gas pipe.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 34-year-old Stamford man, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

He has been released on police bail pending enquiries.

Police and the fire service were called to the scene and fire crews used putty to seal the crack in the pipe. The road was closed for repairs.
