Bourne man in drunken rage hit BMW car with lump of wood
A 35-year-old man who thrashed a BMW car with a lump of wood was celebrating his birthday the evening before, a court heard.
Tim Ward of Gilpin Close, Bourne, who admitted the offence, smashed the windows and damaged the bodywork of the BMW Series 3 car at around 5am on August 7.
He was arrested after the car's owner, Michael Finch, was woken by the noise and then saw Ward on a neighbour's CCTV.
Ward fully admitted what he had done to the police and said he had 'seen red' after an argument with Mr Finch, who was known to him.
The damage to the car would cost £6,500 to fix, the court was told.
Mitigating, Matthew Tye said Ward had consumed a large quantity of alcohol and did not fully remember committing the offence but had been subjected to "abuse and insults" during the evening and had committed the offence "on impulse".
Today (Wednesday, January 5) Boston Magistrates ordered Ward to pay compensation of £500 to cover Mr Finch's insurance excess and also future insurance payment increases as a result of the claim.
He was also fined £333 and ordered to pay court costs and charges totalling £119.
