Market Deeping's Wednesday market will continue along with the new Saturday market

Market Deeping’s Wednesday market is set to continue despite the launch of a weekly Saturday market from tomorrow.

The original charter was granted for the market in 1220, and having disappeared in the late 19th century it was relaunched 50 years ago (see Mercury Memories, page 106).

Now the market - which features eight regular traders and a number of others who are there alternate weeks - is keen to show its strength and tell people it is there to stay.

Deepings Wednesday Market manager, Danielle Spencer said: “We receive no help or funding from the council and it is trader-run. This makes us reliant on the support of the town to keep going. Luckily customer loyalty has kept each trader returning.”

The market is at the Deepings Centre, The Precincts, off Godsey Lane from 8am to 3pm.
