Marks & Spencer announces 7,000 shop-based jobs are to be axed

Around 7,000 jobs are being axed at retail giant Marks & Spencer as part of a further shake-up in the face of the coronavirus crisis.

M&S, which has a Foodhall in Stamford, a Foodhall in Bourne and a Simply Food in Oakham, said the bulk of the cuts would be made across its stores, hitting around 12 per cent of its 60,000 shop-based staff, as well as a smaller number of support centre and regional management workers.

The branch in Stamford is currently undergoing renovations to its roof
