A DANCE at the weekend raised about £700 for two charities.

Stamford mayor David Brailsford organised the 1960s themed dance which took place in the ballroom of Stamford Arts Centre in St Mary’s Street, Saturday.

About 80 people attended to dance to music, which was provided by Leicester-based band The Silhouettes. There was also a licensed bar and a raffle.

Coun Brailsford said the event had raised nearly £700, which will be shared between his two chosen charities The Evergreen Care Trust and Teenzone.

He said: “It was a brilliant evening and the band, which was organised by Pete Buttress, was fabulous. Lots of people there said they would like the band to return.

“The dance floor was full and I think everyone enjoyed it.”

He thanked the businesses who donated raffle prizes or promoted the event and everyone who attended.

Coun Brailsford added: “I was pleased to raise such a significant sum for two worthwhile charities.”
