April 21st is a busy time for one village postie with three neighbours celebrating their birthdays on the same day.

Ketton residents Lena Brown, Alison Couzens and Millie Reho shared their birthdays yesterday - the same day as the Queen’s.

The trio live next door to one another in Manor Green but only discovered the coincidence through a series of chance conversations.

They each received a surprise gift from the community team at Chater Lodge to mark the occasion.

Care home manager Zoe Postgate said: “Everything has been so restricted in the last year so we just want to celebrate whatever joy we can.”

Three-year-old Millie received a dolls’ house for her birthday and enjoyed a day out at Twinlakes.

Her gift from Chater Lodge was a cuddly toy.

Alison was celebrating her 67th birthday with a trip to the garden centre while Lena, 70, was planning a pub lunch followed by coffee and cakes with family and friends.

They each received a bouquet of flowers.

Alison said: “I knew I shared my birthday with Millie because I remember when she was born.

“When I was little everyone used to tell me the flags were flying for my birthday. It’s only when I was about 12 that I found out they were actually for the Queen!”

Alison serves on Ketton Parish Council and is due to retire from her cleaning job later this month.

She has previously worked at Ketton Sports Club and The Railway, joking that much of her working life was spent serving beer.

Lena is originally from Finland and only moved to Ketton four years ago.

She was surprised to discover that she shares her birthday not only with her neighbours, but also the Queen.

She said: “It’s very special for me. I really appreciate the Queen and admire everything she does.”

The doorstep surprise was organised by Maria Durrant, the activities coordinator at Chater Lodge.

She also lives in Manor Green and is Millie’s great aunt.

She said: “We’ve explained to Millie that she shares her birthday with the Queen, but she doesn’t really understand it yet.”
