Members must personally defend their objections to more Bourne homes

By Mercury reporter

Councillors have been told if they oppose detailed plans for 174 homes at Elsea Park, Bourne, they must personally explain why at any related planning appeal.

The warning follows a South Kesteven District Council development committee meeting last month overturning officer recommendations to approve the Taylor Wimpey scheme at the reserved matters stage, because they were unhappy with the development’s layout and design.

Now, members meeting on Tuesday have been told to reconsider, with officers saying”the reasons given for refusal are not substantive as to be defensible at appeal.”

A report added: “Any member who votes to refuse the application must be willing to appear for the authority and give evidence.”
