New war memorial for Market Deeping and Deeping St James is being planned

A permanent tribute to those who gave up their lives for today's democratic freedoms is to be discussed.

Tom Johnson, a member of The Rotary Club of the Deepings, has submitted plans to South Kesteven District Council for it to go in Market Deeping’s Market Place, near the town hall.

There is already a memorial in Riverside Park and a roll of honour in St Guthlac’s Church but this planned one would be more accessible.

It would cost about £7,000 with funds having to be raised.

Mr Johnson, 86, from Tallington, said: “It’s very important to have a memorial to those who gave their lives for our freedoms.”

The plans were due to be discussed on Thursday April 2 by South Kesteven District Council’s planning committee but this has been postponed as a result of coronavirus.
