This is the wreckage of a Volkswagen Polo which is barely recognisable after leaving the A1 near Peterborough last night...and amazingly the driver was not seriously injured.

Police were called to the single vehicle crash on the A1 southbound carriageway at Alwalton at 8.12pm on Monday, June 13.

The car was a wreck but thankfully the driver walked away from the scene without serious injury.

Fire officers have said it is a miracle how the driver of this car walked away from this crash after the vehicle left the roadway, collided with trees and even uprooted one tree.

The casualty climbed out and walked 60yrds to a layby assisted by passing motorists, before firefighters gave her first aid until paramedics arrived.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said the teenage woman was treated at the scene for multiple cuts and bruises and a minor head injury before being taken to Peterborough City Hospital.
