Thousands of shoppers pack out Oakham for Rutland Food and Drink Festival

More than 6,000 people poured into Oakham to lap up Rutland Food and Drink Festival on a stunning autumnal Sunday.

Festive shoppers from Oakham as well as surrounding villages packed into the town’s historic castle and the grounds as well as Market Street and Market Place to make the event a massive success.

Ecstatic organiser Carolyn Acton-Reed said: “The whole occasion went ever so well and we had a fantastic day.

“We were lucky with the weather because we had a cold but gloriously sunny day while Saturday was awful.”

She said Sunday’s shopping spectacular capped a busy year for Oakham on the festival front.

“We also staged shows in April and June but this was easily the best of the lot.

“It really was a case of third time lucky,” said Carolyn, who’s Oakham Town Centre manager and is also contracted to Oakham Town Partnership.

“We had 80 stalls offering a huge range of goods and a couple of singers and Lindy Hop dancers to entertain the crowds.

“We also featured excellent food, drink and produce showcasing Rutland at our absolute best.

“I’ve had brilliant feedback and the hard work it took to stage was totally worth it.”
