Uppingham's Victoria Pharmacy to close

Victoria Pharmacy in Uppingham is set to close next Friday after more than 30 years of serving patients.

Peter Coles, pharmacy manager, said: “The customers have been brilliant - we have had one patient come in crying.

“Fortunately we are keeping our jobs as we will be transferring to Ashdale Pharmacy.”

He added that cuts to NHS funding had hit them hard.

“We don’t want to close, but because we have lost a lot of funding it’s not viable any more. We are not going to make the money. We’ve got Boots just around the corner and three pharmacies in a small radius.

“That has a big impact on a small pharmacy while a big company wouldn’t notice the shortfall.”
