New chairman of Rutland County Council 'honoured' to take on the role




The new chairman of Rutland County Council said it was a great honour to take up the post after he was elected by councillors during a virtual meeting yesterday (Monday, June 29).

Coun Edward Baines (Con) beat Coun Jeff Dale (Ind) to the coveted position by 16 votes to 11.

In his speech to council members before the vote, Coun Dale alluded to a prior conversation with his opponent in which the Tory had assured him he would not stand.
