Rutland Sinfonia has appointed Eduardo Vassallo as its first Musical Patron.
The cellist, who will take up the specially created position with the orchestra, will help to develop a continuing exploration of the cello repertoire over the coming years.
Eduardo was born in Argentina and has been Principal Cellist of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra since 1989.
In May 2013 he played Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with the Rutland Sinfonia and won the hearts of its members.
Kristi Newton of Rutland Sinfonia said: “The performance was terrific and was clear that the audience had also taken him to heart. “Apart from being a tremendous cellist and musician, he has the rare ability to inspire and connect with everyone around him, both musically and socially.”
Eduardo said: “As patron of the Rutland Sinfonia I am looking forward to playing the Elgar cello concerto with the orchestra this season, and to seeing everyone in the near future.”
