New Youth centre open for business

Stamford's youngsters are celebrating after a new youth facility opened its doors.

The Shack, which is located on Stamford's Recreation Ground, has undergone an extensive modernisation and expansion to cater to the town's youth, and is now offering a drop-in centre for 11-16 year-olds every Tuesday and Thursday between 3pm and 6pm.

Luke Denley, a youth outreach worker who is running The Shack, said: "The opening was a huge success and it went really well.

"We had the mayor, councillors and other dignitaries here to help us celebrate, and we had 20 children through our doors on the very first day.

"The next day we had another 16, and last week we had 20. It is all about word of mouth and getting the message out here that this is a fun, and safe, place to hang out..

"I'd like to thank the community foe getting behind The Shack and giving us their full support."

The centre is being run in partnership with Stamford's Methodist Church, and has a range of activities including pool tables, games consoles and pay-as-you-feel food courtesy of Second Helpings, Stamford's pay-as-you-feel cafe.

All volunteers have been DBS checked and are committed to creating a safe and enjoyable place for the town's youth to to to after they've been to school.
