Next month’s County Show is cancelled and now the event is set to move away from the Melton borough

A statement on the website of the organisers, the Leicestershire Agricultural Society, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work and support in running the Leicestershire County Show.
“Unfortunately we have had to cancel the 2015 show due to circumstances out of our control. All cheques will be returned.”
The show, which would have been the 171st this year, had been downsized in recent years with the focus more on local produce and animals.
The event made its debut in Melton in 2006 at Melton Airfield, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the borough in its heyday.
The society pulled out of staging the show at the Dalby Road site in 2010, at the time saying its lease had been terminated by the landowners. The landowners disagreed the cancellation of the 2010 show was because of the lease.
After a two-year break the show made its return when it was held at Melton Cattle Market.
But now it looks like the show will be moving away from the Melton borough, which would be a blow to the local economy.
Leicestershire Agricultural Society president Geoff Gilby said: “This year’s show has been cancelled due to lack of support - a lot of organisations are suffering the same way. It’s nothing financial and everybody has been informed.
“We were happy with the venue but we weren’t happy to go ahead in the circumstances and we decided to wait until we move to a new venue in Market Harborough.
“We hope to move there within the next season or two. They’re getting on well with it and we’re waiting for it to be re-seeded.
“It’s very sad really but these things do happen.”
The society says it is continuing to raise money through social events and is encouraging people to stay in touch and share any ideas they have.
