Tickets have gone on sale today for an unmissable magical Christmas concert that marks the beginning of the festive season in Rutland.

The NSPCC Celebrity Christmas Carol Concert, sponsored by Don Paddy’s in Uppingham, will this year take place on Monday, December 7, at All Saints’ Church in Oakham.

The pealing Christmas bells usher the audience into a church twinkling with a multitude of sparkling Christmas tree lights and flickering candles, to be greeted with a heart-warming welcome of mulled wine, mince pies and the reassuring traditional, Christmas sound of the Brass Band.

The audience then take their seats to sit back and enjoy this annual concert, which is a sparkling mix of carols, interspersed with readings, to make us think, laugh, and reflect on the true values of Christmas: traditional carols to join in with accompanied by the glorious organ; carols performed by the sublime Harborough Singers; the cheerful, merry music of Foresters Brass; all interspersed with enthralling readings from our greatest literature both traditional and contemporary.

These readings will be brilliantly recounted by celebrities including Nigel Colborn (gardening expert, writer, TV presenter), Anne Davies (BBC East Midlands Today), Rosemary Conley (diet and fitness expert), Peter Wheeler (Leicester Tigers), Tim Hart (hotelier and restaurateur) and David Farrer QC, and all held together by compere, Caroline Aston.

This promises to be a true evening of Christmas delights, guaranteed to fill you with festive fervour.

This occasion, in the presence of the Lord Lieutenant and the High Sheriff, is usually a sell-out. More than £17,500 was raised from last year’s concert alone, principally from local businesses through sponsorship or advertising, all of which has benefitted local projects. It has become the largest single fundraising event for the NSPCC in the East Midlands region.

Doors open at 6.45pm with guests to be seated by 7.20pm. The concert finishes at about 9.30pm.

Early application is advisable for the tickets, which are priced at £15 each, available from:- The Baker’s Yard in Church Street (01572 755484), Don Paddy’s in Market Place (01572 822255), Margaret Wheeler by calling 01572 813626.
