Coronavirus: Number of lockdown fines revealed while crime plummets

Lockdown flouters in Lincolnshire have been fined 31 times since rules were brought in last month – but crime overall has plummeted.

Leicestershire Police Force, which covers Rutland, has issued 58 fines, while neighbouring forces Northamptonshire has issued 12 and Cambridgeshire has fined 27 people. Nottinghamshire Police Force issued 21 fines.

Nationally, almost all offences have dropped dramatically. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given that most are now closed, shoplifting has fallen by 54% in England and Wales.
