People in Rutland, Stamford, Bourne and the Deepings urged to report stolen number plates because thefts lead to arrests

Police are warning people to report number plate thefts by phoning 101 after a set were stolen from a vehicle in Ketton on Monday.

Officers traced the offender over the county border to Billingborough.

Insp Ian Martin said: "Although number plate thefts don't seem serious, the criminals are using the plates to disguise vehicles that might be used in more serious crimes.

"We urge people to report any crime they experience so that we can piece together the evidence we need to make arrests."
