Pupils at Oakham CE Primary School took to the school fields for a run but this wasn’t a PE lesson - it was in a bid to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

The school hosted a school Race for Life event on Tuesday last week and headteacher Steve Cox believes his school is one of the first in Rutland to hold it.

All the pupils - about 300 - took part, running various distances and although money is still coming in, the event is expected to raise a “substantial amount”.

Mr Cox said it was something the school was keen to get involved in as “cancer touches everyone”.

The Race for Life event and Pretty Muddy race will take place this weekend in Stamford.
