RESIDENTS in Forth Close, Oakham, were evacuated from their homes yesterday due to a bomb scare.
Police were called at 4.23pm after what was believed to have been a small number of explosive canisters were found in a garage in the close.
As a precautionary measure in the interests of public safety the area immediately surrounding the property was cordoned off and some residents were evacuated from their homes.
At 6pm the Ministry of Defence’s bomb disposal unit carried out an examination of the canisters. The examination revealed that the canisters would not have posed any threat to the public and were no longer explosive.
Police thanked residents and motorists affected by the evacuation and road closures for their patience and co-operation.
